We head to France for Holy Week.

It rained most of the nearly three hours on way north out of Toulouse, but as we got to our exit (about a forty minute drive on back roads to Sarlat) the sun broke through and blue skies did their best to show up. This was the end of the exit ramp. Fairly spectacular site!

on the back roads-

Our first dinner in Sarlat. This is my third time visiting the area and each time we have made our base in Sarlat. A stunning fourteenth century town that is still a market town for the area. Perigord truffles and foie gras are local specialties, along with duck rillettes and other gourmet items. We both chose the menu tonight (all choices marked) Food was straightforward and unfussy.  Tasty and well prepared dishes with friendly and attentive service.

The walk home to our apartment was lovely- chilly but lovely:

tthe front door to our apatment was under the first sign on thelft hand side- La Maison de ValentiSo we bundled up and went for a walk and to the store.   Went out to take some photos of the old town. It's Sunday (actually Palm Sunday) so things are virtually deserted. But today we have some sun, and tomorrow there is a 99% chance of rain. So you "get it while you can" (on instruction from Steve Goodman.) The town is smallish but I know from previous trips, there are many alleys and backstreets that are extremely picturesque. So after a quick bite of mediocre cassoulet (happy to find a place open) we walked about a quarter today in the sun/shade and cold (40s.) Dinner tonight will be nearby as we don't have clothes for 35* weather. We live in southern Spain!

I have photos of these geese going back to 1996!

We win at dinner that night. After a mediocre lunch (lack of planning for Sunday afternoon.) We hit a jackpot tonight at a place called Le Presidial.  Lovely meal - choose an entree and a main and a dessert for 45€. I had a fabulous tarte of asparagus and morel mushrooms and then the filet Rossini and Phil had foie gras and then duck. We both had the pavlova for dessert. Another evening that we walked home through this stunningly beautiful town.

so another day in the lovely Sarlat la Caneda. More to follow- stay tuned.
