So December rolled around and Mike was our first visitor to Seviilla for December... the night before he arrived we went out for Italian.
He arrived on a Tuesday night from Lisbon. We went to Manolo Mayo after Phil's class finished.
Then on Wednesday we went to Dos de Mayo for tapas before Mike headed to The Merchant for the Liverpool v. Arsenal football match. So we took Mike to our favorite tapas place tonight. The food was the usual delicious selection. Shown below. Olives, red peppers, tuna tataki, jamon bellota, flamenquin with cola de Toro, gambas and merluza al ajillo, espinacas y garbanzos. All good!
And on the way home I added a photo to my Sevilla doorways collection. A stunning entry with both tile and marble and intricate marquetry. Really one of the most beautiful I have seen.
On Thursday night we went to Cas Juan Paloma over by Escalona. And, it's Frank Patterson for the win! (Again!) Great tortilla... (Really excellent!) Perfectly cooked solomillo and very nice arroz and really terrific carpaccio de gambas. Rounded out with anchoas and sardinas. Chocos were tender and tasty too! Our server was friendly and attentive.
More holiday lights on the way home. After a stop at MITO of course. The lanterns we saw before the lights went on are now lit and beautiful. The angel wing display for photo ops is really lovely but the kids who were posing weren't tall enough to wear the halos.
Friday was Mike's last day with us as he was leaving on Saturday morning for Porto in Portugal before flying home to Chicago... Our "farewell" dinner with Mike tonight. It was a regular place where we eat - Mike liked it the best of the four evening meals. Good food and an excellent wine. Tried both postres and liked both. Had our favorite starters - the puntillitas, the steak tartare tostas and the matrimonio (anchoas y boquerones). Mains include an arroz Iberico and the Presa. Will return again.
earlier in the day I had to go to the bank and while crossing through the plaza I was struck by our gorgeous blue sky. Here it is called Sevillaño blue. The balcony with flowers is on the top floor of the farmacia building on the corner next to Phil's fruit stand. I had never noticed it before, but today the sun was like a spotlight on that corner of the building. There is another view of our new plaza. This one is from Nueva towards Zaragoza. And some photos from the city hall plaza, less than a block from our building. The oranges are really starting to ripen. After they drop, then the trees blossom. It is a favorite time of the year here. It means the better weather is well on its way and that the air is filled with the scent of orange blossoms. #sevillasights #sevillascents
So Mike left- I changed the sheets and washed towels and Lee arrived about 27 hours later... for a week of fun ending up in Madrid with Megan & Christian and maybe Oscar...
