So Phil wanted me to look at a pizza on a FB group he follows, and I went down a rabbit hole. By the time it was time to think about dinner we had canceled our Tradevo reservation, went as walk-ins for pizza tonight at La Piemontesa. We had two good pizzas and a good salad and two good desserts... too chilly and rainy today to eat anything but comfort food...
So the next day we met Joseph - our old classmate from Road Scholar immersion and his new lady friend LaDeen for coffee and then went to the Peruvian place we have been meaning to try for dinner.
I liked it better than Phil. I liked the light fresh fish/seafood dishes of ceviche and tiradito. We also had a tasy chaufa rice dish. Then Phil didn't feel like he had enough to eat so we ordered a meat dish to supplement.
So, wow! We are already to the end of January- and we have been here more than three months... time jets these days. Ron & Mary arrive on February 1 and then we are "off to the races" with lots of guests and travel...
A place we have liked in the past, near the Setas (video included) but since we first came here almost 2 years ago, they have more than doubled their space. The kitchen hasn't really kept up. Food was fine but nothing special, and this place used to be exactly that, with some different takes on the standard fare. The service was pleasant and attentive. However, it's sister restaurant, La Escalona continues to be a favorite of ours. And their Plaza Alfalfa location is more of a place in the hood versus the touristic location of the Setas on the main drag of Imagen / Alfonso 12. So this may be the last visit for a while. Meanwhile - tomorrow we are off on a "field trip" to Costco. It has an exurban location (cab there and Uber back) which we visit when Phil needs more bagels (a hard to find item here.) Never a dull moment.
