GIANT prawns

a while back The Fish Guy had a sale on king prawns and so we made a purchase.  tonight we made our first foray into grilling these huge prawns.  6-8 to a pound huge!

we invited our friends Sheila and Mary to come over and help us eat them because there was no way we would be able to do it on our own as they had come in a giant ice block and once thawed had to be cooked...

so here they are in the marinade- one in Red Mud and one in a Asian sauce concoction that I made from ginger and lemon and soy and sesame oil and garlic.

here is the Red Mud BBQ sauce we love so much- and which in the taste off Sheila and Mary had a slight preference for--- Phil and I had a preference for the Asian one---

another shot of the BBQ prawns prior to grilling

and one of the Asian marinaded ones

and because I am cleaning out the refrigerator before our trip- I cooked up the last corn from the farmer's market and put it into a salad of veggies - haricots vert and mushrooms with tomatoes and hearts of palm (added the lettuce later)

and here are the grilled results:

the meal was quite tiring for the kitties so they went into the living room near the fire and slept off the extremely difficult prep work LOL while we ate our dessert of pumpkin bread with mangoes and date caramel with whipped cream on top (all foraged from the frig.)

in the red mud photo you may have noticed one of the numbered wine bottles from last Sunday's tasting - we were completing the "aging" process for further tasting tonight- and wine number two - the Santenay from Morey and Sophie actually had improved quite dramatically over the week's time... and was a good value for a 2009 burgundy...

nice evening with friends... on the spur of the moment.
