transit day and more

Back in "AirportLand" today. Vueling flight from Barcelona to A Coruña went smoothly and despite a delay with cabs at the small airport, we were into our new holiday apartment and unpacked by late afternoon. Phil shown in his new lair (already practicing his daily Spanish on Duo.) We spent the afternoon nailing down restaurant reservations for Easter and Good Friday especially. We head home to Sevilla in eight days, once the crowds have left town.

So after our arrival in A Coruña and unpacking we headed out to grab a bite to eat.  We found a nearby Filipino restaurant (limited choices for Sunday evening) and had a good meal. On the way there and back we saw some of our new neighborhood. Some sculptures and historical references in a nearby plaza. And the shield of A Coruña. A nearby church and the first photo is of the street where our holiday apartment is located right near the central market.

Some great choices for Asian tonight served hot and fresh made at KABAYAN.  A lovely lady took our orders and made conversation until the empty-upon-our-arrival restaurant filled with a number of other patrons. Liked the duck gyoza and the adobo bao, lumpia and spring rolls, as well as the fried chicken and the pancit. We also tried a "new to us" dish of torta talong (eggy eggplant.) over rice. A win for a last minute decision. We had no idea there would be soooo many places closed tonight. A number of places were open but only for midday meal. Live and learn!

Nearby plaza -

On our first day in A Coruña, we went to the market and to the grocery and to lunch and for a short walk to the government square nearby.

The local architecture is beautiful lots of big windows...

In the market I bought two cheese and a local cake for Semana Santa...

We ate some of the cake right away! Called it breakfast... Lunch was at Pablo Gallego

Then a tour around the government square before rain overtook us.

a lot of stairs in this hilly city by the sea...

many other great buildings and doorways along the way...

Later a dinner that we walked to through an absolute gale!  The restaurant was called Hunico.  A rainy night with substantial winds. We walked about ten minutes to dinner and had an excellent meal. We split a salad to start and then I had cured salmon and Phil had a shrimp "salad-ish" which he enjoyed. Then I had the sea bass in miso with veggies and he had the cochinio. We skipped dessert. Too full. Also we went to the grocery today, as well as the market so we are well stocked for sweets.

so the following day we got more sun so I went back to the government square for more photos. Look for them in a later post....
