a new goosefoot menu

we hadn't been to see Chris and Nina Nugent recently with all the traveling going on in July and August

so by the time we made it back after our last visit on June 26th- the menu had changed and offered some wonderful new things! (Salmon prepared a new way- my favorite prep so far!!!)

so here is the menu and then the photos-

we thought the pairing of two Pernand-Vergelesses (a white and a red) would be a positive thing but neither of them showed well- both disappointing - the white over the hill a bit but fine with food - the red still had structure but not enough fruit to fill it - we had back ups but these weren't bad wines they just weren't good ones so we went ahead and drank them... later we wished we had given up on them..

a new first bite- beignet!

the scallop course

a new twist on the custard egg- no dried flakes and a bit lighter and creamier texture...

corn soup- the one we had our first time at goosefoot for Sheila's birthday a couple of years ago- and a perennial favorite...

the new salmon prep (I had always considered the espelette overpowering of the salmon so I was thrilled with the new preparation) with Chris' own flavoring of soy - which was very light and not overly soy sauce tasting- just right! It's my new favorite course!

the risotto with truffle shavings - extremely creamy-

the beef- couldn't have been better- cooked to the exact right level and very tasty...

a new cheese course of a triple cream cow's milk cheese was lovely-

the fruity dessert- light and full of berry flavors-

what we usually refer to as the "chocolate dessert" this one had the chocolate on the top and was a parfait with pineapple flavoring- maybe a bit more chocolate and a it less pineapple would be a better balance (but you are always going to hear that from chocolate lovers like Phil)

a lovely end note- spiced hot chocolate with foamed milk set on aromatics of coffee beans and cloves

so a lovely evening - ending with a tour of the soon(?) to be opened gourmet food store and wine shop next door... some very interesting items already in stock there including some of my favorite olive oil flavored with orange... all in all a lovely evening and as always - great to see Chris, Nina and the whole staff (especially our buddies Isabelle and Molly)... thanks to all!
