on to Okavanga

Up early to get to the Kasane airport for our “toy plane’ transfers to the delta.  The flights are uneventful we took two planes – one had four passengers and the other had eleven of us.  We were in the larger plane.  After about an hour we landed on a landing strip of grass and pulled over to our awaiting jeeps.

Our drive to camp starts with lunch only twenty minutes from the airstrip, under a large shade tree.   We continue on to camp via a round-about route for game viewing along the way.  Here we come upon two four month old lion cubs who had been waiting for their mom to bring back food.
Later we encounter their mom on the road looking for dinner…

We arrive at camp to the singing greeting and welcome cool towels.  We get the obligatory safety briefing and then are shown our tents – no doors – no locks all open because we are so isolated.  Two hours plus from the air strip.

We try to shower but the water is cold- turns out you have to wait about 15 to 20 minutes for it to get hot.  We later get some hot water and then go to dinner which is served in the main lodge.  Retire early and up early the next morning for the next game drive – this one will be all day as the park is large and this will be our main day.
